Witchbrook, the fourth game Chucklefish has made in-house, launches on January 28, 2027, the London studio announced on Wednesday. It costs $24.99 and comes to PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The PS5 version is new this week, and the game is on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
Chucklefish’s own games so far are Starbound, a 2016 space sandbox, and two Wargroove tactics games. The second Wargroove was made by Robotality, the German studio co-developing Witchbrook now. Chucklefish has also published other teams’ games for years, from Stardew Valley to Wildfrost and Loco Motive, so it knows this genre from the publisher’s chair.
You enrol as a witch in training at Witchbrook College, in a seaside town called Mossport. Classes cover Alchemy, Astrology, Tarot, Rituals and more, and passing exams unlocks spells on the way to graduation. Between lessons you can make friends, date, join a club, fish, catch bugs and watch birds. You can also start a witch business that sells your magic to the town, and fix up a woodland cottage and its garden. Seasonal events fill the calendar, and your witch’s clothes, hair and accessories are yours to pick.
The new gameplay trailer, shown during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase, stays mostly in class: spellcasting, exams, library visits, potion-making, tarot readings and a first look at some of the creatures.
Up to 4 players can share all of it in online co-op. That is the line that moved Witchbrook up my list, because a school year is more fun with classmates who are actual people.
It has been a long road to a date. Witchbrook got a Winter 2025 window in a Nintendo Direct in March 2025, slipped to 2026 that October, and has now missed 2026 by four weeks. Chucklefish blamed part of that delay on “additional platforms and language support we hadn’t initially planned,” Game Informer reported at the time. Both arrive with the date: a PS5 version, and ten languages including Japanese, Korean, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
You can wishlist it on Steam if you want the reminder. Game Pass players only need to remember Thursday, January 28.
