Re-Volt, Acclaim’s 1999 radio-controlled car racer, is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation on November 5, 2026, H2 Interactive announced on October 15. It will be digital on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store, and a physical Switch H2 Edition is up for pre-order at $29.99. The digital price has not been announced, and the release says “PlayStation” without naming PS4 or PS5.
The game itself is the 1999 one. You pick from more than 28 RC cars and race them through supermarkets, toy stores, museums and ghost towns, where everyday objects become the obstacles. Pickups include rockets, oil slicks and battery boosts, and H2 lists Time Trial, Stunt Arena, Championship and multiplayer among the modes.
Twenty-seven years of Re-Volt re-releases
Acclaim released Re-Volt in North America on August 18, 1999, on Windows, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation, with a Dreamcast version that December. The PC and Dreamcast versions got the good reviews. The PlayStation one did not, so a new PlayStation release is a small redemption arc. Acclaim’s follow-up, RC Revenge, came out in 2000 on PlayStation and PlayStation 2.
Then the rights went wandering. WeGo Interactive bought them in 2010 and put Re-Volt Classic on phones. A GOG release in 2013 was pulled a few months later after a dispute. The rights moved again to Superday. H2 Interactive brought the original back to GOG in April 2022 and to Steam on July 29, 2022, where it still sells for $5.99. Fans also kept their own version going with RVGL, a rewrite that runs natively on modern Windows and Linux.
H2 has not called the new version a remaster, and I think that is honest. The changes are in-game help, a minimap, four-player local split-screen, and one that will start arguments: you can now carry up to three items instead of one (purists, start typing). Re-Volt was built around grabbing one pickup and spending it well. The release does not say whether the old one-item rule survives as an option, and it says nothing about online play.
The box is sold through H2’s newly launched H2 Edition store, which plans more collector’s releases. It adds a metal slipcase, three stickers, an English manual and two soundtrack CDs. As for which version to play, the Dreamcast and PC releases drew the best reviews in 1999, and the Steam release is the cheapest way in today. The new console versions are the ones for four players on one screen without a PC under the TV. I will be buying the box for the slipcase alone.
