Nine Dots Studio has set February 8, 2027, for the Early Access launch of Outward 2 on PC. For our server, the group answer is only half there. Online and split-screen co-op are both in, but the studio hasn’t listed a player count or said anything about dedicated servers.
It launches on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. There’s no price yet. The Outward 2 Steam page only promises it will cost less during Early Access than at 1.0, which the studio expects to take 12 to 18 months. That Steam page still shows February 7, a day early, but Nine Dots’ own announcement says February 8, so that’s the date I’d mark.
The date came with a trailer the studio calls Survival of the Smartest, shown during the Triple-I Initiative showcase.
The first Outward came out in 2019, and you could share it with one friend, locally or online, as the Definitive Edition’s store page puts it. That was a two-player game, and if the sequel goes higher, Nine Dots hasn’t said so yet.
What a walk across Aurai costs in Outward 2
Survival comes first. Hunger, thirst, exhaustion and weather all count, and there are no mounts and no fast travel, so every trip is a walk with a full backpack. You start as a commoner without magic and buy your way up through paid trainers, mixing up to three classes, and fights are about dodging, blocking and dual-wielding. An optional Hardcore mode gives every defeat a 20% chance of deleting your save. That’s the kind of setting a group should agree on before anyone loads in.
Early Access opens with three full open-world regions, plus a fourth that’s playable but unfinished. There are three starting scenarios in three cities, six trainers, and three of the seven questlines planned for 1.0, each with three missions ready. Full voice-over, more dungeons and bosses, and the remaining questlines come later.
This date follows a delay. In June, CEO and creative director Guillaume Boucher-Vidal pulled the planned summer launch. The studio’s test was blunt: “in a few weeks, will this be good enough to charge money for?” Four months later, the new date is the studio’s answer. The store page is plain about matchmaking too: there isn’t any, so you bring your own partner or find one on the Nine Dots Discord.
If your group runs two-player nights, put February 8 on the calendar now. If it runs six, wait for the player count before it goes in the Friday poll.
