Underkeep, a 90s-style dungeon crawler from Czech veterans Rake in Grass, launched November 5

Underkeep launched on November 5, 2026, and if you have ever mapped a dungeon on graph paper, you will want it on your list. It is a Windows game on Steam and GOG at $22.95, and both stores have it 15% off right now, at about $19.50. GOG’s offer ends November 19. A free demo is available on Steam, and the Supporter Pack sells there for $4.99.

You lead a party of four adventurers through a grid, one square at a time, and the fights are turn-based. Each character has individual abilities and spells, and the equipment you find changes how the party works together. Rake in Grass names Dungeon Master, Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry and Ishar as games its developers “played as children and loved.”

Dungeon Master, from 1987, ran in real time, and so did Legend of Grimrock, the grid crawler that brought the style back in 2012. Eye of the Beholder, from Westwood Associates, followed Dungeon Master in 1991. Underkeep takes the slower road. Its store page talks about planning, controlling space, and managing stamina and mana, and the developers promise modern controls and clearer visuals than the originals had. If real-time panic is why you bounced off Grimrock, this fixes the thing you bounced off.

The art is hand-drawn, and the exploration continues past the dungeon into forests, plains and swamps. The studio estimates 15 to 20 hours, with traps, quests and decisions that can change what happens next. Mouse, keyboard and full controller support are all included, so the couch is an option.

This is no debut. Rake in Grass is a Prague studio founded in 2000, and it calls itself "one of the longest-running indie game studios in the Czech Republic." It counts more than 20 games across 8 platforms. Jets'n'Guns and Rampage Knights are the names you may recognize, and Bellfortis came out last year. Wikipedia lists three employees, which is a small crew for a company that has been at this for 26 years.

A small team building the kind of game it grew up on is what my list is for. The demo costs nothing, so start there, then decide before GOG's discount ends on November 19.
