Bethesda Game Studios has named its next game The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, revealing the title on November 3, 2026, in a video for the studio’s 40th anniversary. No release date, price or platforms came with it. If the series holds its shape, this will be an action RPG like the five numbered games before it, though Bethesda has said nothing about systems yet.
So an heir has been christened, eight years after the birth announcement. The first teaser ran at E3 2018, with Todd Howard saying the game would come after Starfield. In late 2025, Howard was still asking fans for patience and calling it a long way off.
The reveal came with a short in-world note, which RPG Site ran in full. It is signed by Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, and dated 4E 206. “A future lost. A victory undone,” Yazar writes of what a scroll showed. That is all the plot anyone has been given, and that is where I stop.
The signature carries two facts. The date falls five years after Skyrim, which is set in 4E 201, though Bethesda has not said the game itself takes place then. The note also names Hammerfell, the province the Redguards call home, and Sentinel is a city and kingdom there. The Elder Scrolls Online has already taken the hint. Its Alik'r Awaits campaign asks players to defend that Hammerfell region "in celebration of Bethesda Game Studios' recent reveal."
The Sentinel name has been in the family since Daggerfall
The name is older than most of the series. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, from 1996, was set in the Iliac Bay between High Rock and Hammerfell, and one of its quests involves the missing Prince of Sentinel. Two years later, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard put a Redguard hero, Cyrus, in the lead. Then the numbered games moved on to other provinces: Morrowind in 2002, Oblivion in 2006 and Skyrim in 2011.
This heir, then, carries a name from an old branch of the tree. I am inclined to read the title as a homecoming for a line that left the Iliac Bay three decades ago. Bethesda has confirmed none of that.
It has confirmed the name, and a name is the first thing an heir receives. The rest of the estate, date and platforms included, stays in probate for now.
