An army from the north has broken through the border, the bridge at Zhongdu is the last line, and the throne you serve is failing. Do you follow its orders, or stand with your sworn companions and the people behind you? That is the choice at the center of Hutuo, a wartime region NetEase Games and Everstone Studio announced for Where Winds Meet on Tuesday. The free-to-play action RPG, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and mobile, adds it on November 13, 2026. The first global anniversary update lands the same day.
For anyone who has not started, Where Winds Meet is an open-world wuxia game played from a third-person view, set in China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It launched worldwide on PC and PlayStation 5 on November 14, 2025. Mobile followed in December, and Xbox Series X|S in June. The game passed 100 million players in August and won Best Mobile Game at the Gamescom Award 2026, according to Wikipedia.
A bridge is a good place to set this story, because wuxia is a genre about standing between two things. Its heroes owe loyalty to a court or a master, and they owe something to strangers who cannot defend themselves. The stories worth telling start when both debts come due on the same day. NetEase describes Xia in Hutuo as a code built on justice and guardianship, and the arc asks which one you keep when the court and the people want different things.
The details around the main story fill in the war. NetEase’s announcement mentions a conflicted soldier who defies brutal orders, civilians hiding refugees at night, and a song from displaced survivors among the river reeds. The Hutuo River Campaign puts you against Xiao Han, a Khitan general in Blood-forged Super Armor. Two new world bosses join him: Bingshen at Moonveil Knoll and the Khitan shaman Yelu Abuli.
Yuen Woo-ping’s Dual Spears, and two board games
The other headline is a new martial art. Dual Spears was choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, the action director behind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, who is the game’s Global Action Consultant. It pairs Light Spears for constant pressure with Heavy Spears for stance-breaking counters, and a dual-weapon skill swaps between them mid-combo. Dual Spears arrives later than the region, in late November.
Two board game modes come with the update. In Horse Racing Chess, you are a living piece rolling dice to race, and in Jianghu Tactics, you build a lineup through positioning and gear. There are also new combat trials, which the announcement does not describe yet.
Eric Zheng, head of publishing for the game, promised the anniversary update’s “most generous historic rewards since launch” in a PlayStation Blog post. A special broadcast on Monday, November 2, will show more of Hutuo before it opens.
I know which side of the bridge I would choose, and I suspect the game knows it too. That is where I stop. The rest is yours to cross on November 13.
