A new Space Quest is in development at Guillotine Games, its owner MMMera, Inc. announced on October 12, 2026, and so far it has the name and one voice from the old series. It’s coming to PC on Steam with no date and no price. You can wishlist Space Quest on Steam now, and that’s about all you can do with it.
The first teaser premiered on Sunday, October 11, at Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Josh Mandel, the Sierra writer, designer and voice actor, does the voice work in it. MMMera says the game has its own characters, story and creative direction. The Steam page casts you as Mayday McCoy, “a reluctant hero” with an AI sidekick called PAL 3000, which is a long way from a janitor named Roger Wilco.
Space Quest was six comic sci-fi adventures from Sierra On-Line. They ran from The Sarien Encounter in October 1986 to Space Quest 6: Roger Wilco in The Spinal Frontier in 1995. Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy created it and signed themselves the Two Guys from Andromeda, and the janitor and the jokes were theirs. Mandel led development on the sixth game, with Murphy as a consultant and Crowe not involved. A seventh game started in 1997 and never shipped.
Activision dropped its fight over the name
The announcement is mostly about paperwork. The US Patent and Trademark Office issued MMMera a registration for the Space Quest mark in video game software on December 16, 2025 (Registration No. 8,064,494, for the record keepers). Activision had filed an opposition, then withdrew it, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board dismissed it with prejudice on November 25, 2025.
The release does not name Crowe or Murphy, and nothing in it says either one is involved. They already made their own follow-up. SpaceVenture, Kickstarted in 2012, entered Steam Early Access on April 1, 2025, and came out in full on December 23, 2025. So there are now two answers to “what came after Space Quest”: one with the creators and no name, and one with the name and no creators.
Marcus Mera, who founded both MMMera and Guillotine Games, says the aim is “something new that captures that sense of humor, adventure and discovery.” He has some form here. He was a producer and artist on Colossal Cave 3D with Ken and Roberta Williams. He is now directing Mystery House 3D, an R-rated horror take on Roberta Williams’ 1980 adventure. Humor is the hard one. Space Quest’s came from two specific people, and a voice in a teaser doesn’t carry it on its own.
The Steam page also has an AI disclosure, which says “some marketing and key art was created with AI assistance” for the game. For a series whose art was always half the joke, that is not a promising sign.
Wishlist it if the name is what you miss. If it’s the two guys, SpaceVenture is already out.
