A Game About Digging A Hole Together digs in December 4, day one on Game Pass

Publisher rokaplay and developer Mipumi Games have dated A Game About Digging A Hole Together: the four-player co-op sequel launches December 4, 2026, announced at the ID@Xbox x IGN Showcase. There is still no price. When we covered the reveal on October 1, the window was “later this year.” The hole is on schedule.

It lands on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC, plus PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It is also in Xbox Game Pass on day one, Xbox Wire’s showcase recap confirms. Up to four players dig together, solo still works, and Steam lists online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer.

“More players (though you’ll have to bring your own friends),” the announcement promises. Friends we have. The announcement skips the question I flagged three weeks ago. There is still no word on dedicated servers, or on whether a friend can drop into a dig already running. For a game about one hole that gets deeper every session, the host question decides whose world the hole lives in.

What day one on Game Pass does for a four-person crew

The first game launched at $4.99, cheap enough that nobody in the group argued. A four-player game needs the fourth friend to buy in, and a day-one Game Pass release removes that step for anyone who already subscribes on Xbox or PC. Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer, though nobody has said yet which platforms share a lobby.

The original came from a single developer in a few weeks, reached the top 30 on Steam’s charts and sold over a million copies, according to the announcement. Mipumi is a Vienna studio founded in 2009, with credits on Alan Wake 2, Control, Hitman and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It has since rebuilt the game’s entire code so it runs more smoothly. The loop has not changed: dig, sell, upgrade, keep digging, now with more terrain, more tools and more secrets under the beach. The digging and voxel tech started life in an early version of Solarpunk, the announcement adds.

It is on Steam to wishlist now. I am moving it up the Friday poll for the first week of December, with the server question still pinned to it.
