UNDEFEATED: Genesis turns a free student project into a 2027 superhero RPG

UNDEFEATED: Genesis, a superhero action RPG built around free flight, is coming to Steam and PlayStation 5 in 2027. Publisher Chorus Worldwide and developer Indie-us Games announced it at PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct 2026 this week. A demo is on Steam now, alongside a new trailer.

Every superhero needs an origin story, and this one’s is unusually honest.

The 2019 student project this grew out of

The original UNDEFEATED was built by three students at Vantan Game Academy in Osaka: a free game about flying over a city and hitting things very hard. It went viral on Twitter, landed on Steam in August 2019, and has been downloaded millions of times since by people who wanted exactly that and nothing more. It was a tech demo with a cape. Genesis is the same core team, now trading as Indie-us Games and carrying an Epic MegaGrant. The goal is to grow that reflex into a game with a plot, progression and a planet worth crossing.

The planet is Voltissia. Albert Hartree, called Al, has admired heroes all his life. He is pulled there, wakes up with powers, and falls in with the Enelf, survivors of a world that a mysterious explosion erased five hundred years earlier. He has to protect them, find out what happened, and get home. That is as far as I will go.

What the announcement confirms is narrower than the trailer suggests, and clearer. Flight is how you get around, not a fast-travel option. Powers unlock through combat and stack into a style of your own. Fights move between the ground and the air. The world mixes ruined cities with wilderness. English and Japanese are the only listed languages so far. And Chorus Worldwide, the publisher, is the house behind Coffee Talk and A Space for the Unbound, games that live or die on their writing. A Chorus logo on a flight-and-punching game is either a mismatch or a sign that the story side is being taken seriously, and I lean toward the second.

The question every origin story asks is whether the hero grows into the cape. The demo costs nothing, and until 2027 it is the only place to find out.
