Something We Made’s first game won it a BAFTA, and its second, TOEM 2, is out now. The Swedish studio and co-publisher popagenda released the photo adventure sequel on September 29, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It costs $19.99, and on Steam the 15% launch discount runs until October 13. Popagenda also helped market the first TOEM.
The sequel is set a few years after the first game, and this time your photographer can jump and climb. The camera picks up attachments that solve a different kind of problem in each region. Stamps still fill your journal as you help people and log the local critters. They still work as your ticket to the next area. The studio adds that friends you make along the way can join you and change the story and its ending.
The 2018 student prototype behind TOEM
The first TOEM came out on September 17, 2021. It started in 2018, when Lucas Gullbo and Niklas Mikkelsen, then university students, entered a quick prototype in a local contest called the Game Concept Challenge. It won 50,000 Swedish kronor, about $5,700, and the prize got the pair into a business incubator and turned them into a company.
Their postmortem on Game Developer is frank about the rest. The game went through four major design changes and several pauses before it found its shape in early 2020. In 2022 it won the Debut Game award at the BAFTA Games Awards.
Something We Made is still small. The credits on the studio’s TOEM 2 page list eight names, including both founders and the same two composers, Launchable Socks and Jamal Green. The studio says the team is back together, and “celebrating what worked, while improving the rest” is how it sums up the goal.
Something We Made’s launch note puts TOEM 2 at three to four hours, with no time limits and no hard requirements for full completion. I like a sequel that knows its size, and a team that reworked its first game four times has earned some trust on this one.
You do not need the first game to start here, since the studio built the sequel for newcomers too. If you have never played either, grab the two-game bundle on Steam, which takes an extra 10% off.
