Soulframe opens to every Windows PC player on Friday, November 6, 2026, Digital Extremes announced on November 2. The open-world action RPG’s alpha, now called Soulframe Open Preludes, is free to download from the official site once you create an account. It arrives with an update called Verse of the Veilands. For almost three years, Soulframe has been a walled garden, and the way in was an invite.
Digital Extremes is the London, Ontario studio that co-created Unreal and runs Warframe, now in its 12th year with more than 90 million registered players. It announced Soulframe at TennoCon in July 2022 and let the first players in with a pre-alpha in December 2023. Since then, entry has come in waves: sign-up windows at TennoCon, 2,000 random invites every Wednesday, Twitch Drops, and Founders packs from November 2025.
Creative director Geoff Crookes framed the change as a gate. “It feels a little scary to finally open the gates like this,” he said, adding that more players now help the team decide the direction Soulframe takes. A garden behind a wall is tended on the gardener’s terms. Once the gate is open, the visitors start choosing which paths get worn in.
What Verse of the Veilands plants in Alca
The world is Alca, a land bound to the magic of the Fey and occupied by the Ode, an invading force from the cosmos. Fables are the game's story quests. Verse of the Veilands adds Veilands, a world progression system. After you finish the Fable called The Tormented Stag, the overworld shows the Ode's corruption spreading, and regions can be purified.
The headline addition is the Omen Wolf. You raise it from a pup, and once its training is done and two Veilands regions are purified, you brew a Bairnday Biscuit to grow it into a mount. There is a new character Pact, the Ode Shrike, with spike traps, balloon darts that lift enemies, bola chains that link damage, and a throwing bomb for escapes. The seasonal Bita's Eve event returns with Wintersquash patches, a headless horseman mini-boss named Veltruska and a fish called Sunken Terror. Fishing gets new features as well.
Much of Soulframe unlocks through play. Fables, World Trees and freeing captive animals open up co-op, crafting, customization and weapon progression, so a new player starts with little and earns the rest. I will leave The Tormented Stag for you to find.
The gate opens on Friday at soulframe.com, and Steam players can wishlist Soulframe in the meantime.
