Frost 2 exists: French solo developer Jérôme Bodin announced it on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, with a reveal trailer, a Steam page and an October 13 Kickstarter. It is a PC game with no release date yet, though the Steam page says 2027, and the Kickstarter, which opens October 13, 2026, funds an Early Access build. Here is why I care. The first Frost has sat on my list since 2016 as the deckbuilder where the cards are your food, your tools and your people. The storm behind you does not wait for a good draw.
The setup is the same. A storm called the Frost sweeps the world and never stops, so your group of survivors keeps moving and you keep drawing. Bodin says the sequel adds evolving cards, lasting wounds and dice throwing. Survivors can learn skills, and they change when the Frost gets close, so the group you finish with will not be the group you started with.
The original came out on Steam on July 5, 2016, then went to phones and consoles, and 87 percent of its 129 Steam reviews are positive. For the tenth anniversary, Bodin asked the Frost community what he should make next, and they picked a sequel, which is the whole origin story and a good one.
What one developer shipped in the ten years between
Bodin has not been idle. Steam lists Mini Gal4Xy, a small space 4X, in 2019 and Wednesday Basketball in 2021 under his name. The Frost 2 Steam page names Mudita Games as publisher, the label that shipped BARDA: Backpack Roguelike this June, and Bodin’s own YouTube channel carried Barda’s Next Fest trailer. So this is a one-person studio with a working label behind it, and the ten-year gap is only a gap for Frost.
The part that gets me is the vote. A solo developer putting the next few years of his life to a community poll is rare, and the poll picked the harder answer. If you played Frost, you already know whether you want this. If you did not, the original is $6.99 on Steam and its 2016 demo is still free.
