How Many Dudes passes 300,000 sales and adds seven Sports Dudes in its October 29 update

How Many Dudes has sold more than 300,000 copies in three months, Butterscotch Shenanigans announced on Friday, and its 1.1 update adds seven Sports Dudes on Thursday, October 29, 2026. It is an autobattler that plays like drafting a fantasy team out of a crowd, and now the crowd has athletes in it.

How Many Dudes came out on July 30, 2026, on Steam for PC at $14.99, and Steam shows 91% of 2,218 reviews positive. You recruit Dudes, set up the team, and the team fights escalating waves on its own, from toddlers to gorillas to gods. Bosses drop Trinkets, while Relics and Wandering Dude events reshape each run. Before this update, the store page counted 42 Dudes across six Dude Families, with The Daily Dude and an Ensemble Mode on top of the main runs. Recent reviews run a little cooler than the total, at 84% of 177 over the last 30 days, so 1.1 arrives as the score has dipped.

Update 1.1 adds Soccer, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Tennis, Coach and Broadcaster Dudes. Butterscotch says the seven take the number of possible team compositions from 850,668 to 1,906,884. The update also brings Challenge Mode and reworks Upgrades into permanent stat boosts that carry across runs. The release asks whether Basketball Dudes “would be better off playing Bongos or earning a Black Belt,” which tells you the tone better than I can.

Butterscotch Shenanigans is three brothers, Adam, Seth and Sam Coster. Their best-known game is Crashlands, the 2016 crafting RPG that Sam and Adam chose to make bigger after Sam was diagnosed with stage 4b lymphoma. Crashlands 2 followed on April 10, 2025, and Levelhead is theirs too.

Going from a big crafting sequel to a $15 autobattler in about 15 months is a sharp turn for a family studio. At 300,000 copies, the turn looks like the right call. I did not have this one on my list in July, and that is a miss I am logging.

If you already own it, Thursday is the day to go back. If you do not, the demo on Steam is the cheap way to find out how many Dudes is too many.
