Australia Did It: End-of-the-World Railway Defense Business has more than 1,500 unit merges to find, and publisher Mystic Forge says it launches on November 10, 2026.
It’s a turn-based tactics game for PC on Steam, and the store page lists both Windows and macOS requirements. No price has been announced. A free demo is up now.
The game director is Rami Ismail, who co-founded Vlambeer in Utrecht in 2010. The studio made Ridiculous Fishing, Luftrausers and Nuclear Throne before it announced its closure in 2020. Two studios share the development. Aesthetician Labs is a worker-owned co-op in Rochester, New York, and Dreams Uncorporated is the Colombian studio behind Cris Tales. None of the Vlambeer games asked you to wait your turn. This one does.
What you do at each station
The setup is a cargo train crossing the dried-up bed of the Atlantic Ocean after an unexplained catastrophe. At each station, before the train leaves, you place a limited crew of hired mercenaries and hold off waves of enemies in turn-based fights. Then the train moves, and the fight becomes an autobattle on the rails. Your units act on their own, and the setup you built at the station either holds or it doesn’t. The failure state is a lost shipment. By the release’s own terms, a run counts as a win if the cargo arrives, whether your crew survives or not.
More than 1,500 merges from over 30 unit types
The rest of the design is built on merging. Units combine on the fly into new ones, and the store page counts more than 1,500 results across over 30 unit types. After each station you pick from Reward Cards, which are perks and boosts that push a build in a new direction. Ismail says making it meant “playtesting the most over-the-top unit merges (and the worst ones, too)” along the way.
The station phase is where you plan, and the rail phase tests the plan. That split suits players who like autobattlers but want more control over the setup than most of them give. The demo can show you whether 1,500 merges stay readable once a run gets long.
Australia Did It launches on November 10, and the demo is on its Steam page now.
